• The end of semester exam is worth 60% of the total assessment. It will consist of three questions corresponding to the above three topics. A model exam paper is available here.
• The continuous assessment is worth 30% of the total assessment. It will consist of three in-class tests. Questions in the tests will be taken verbatim from the problem sheet. The tests will take place on 9 October, 6 November, and 23 November.
• An essay (3-4 pages, single-spaced, 11-12pt, justified) on one of the following three topics is worth 10% of the total assessment. Possible topics:
  1. Is mathematics art or science?
  2. Academic publishing and mathematics
  3. Mathematics and philosophy
  The essay should be submitted both as a hard copy and as an identical PDF file. Deadline: Friday, 23 November at noon.
