The aim here is to analyze a large collection (thousands) of irish dance music (specifically reels) and from it to determine the note sequencing patterns (i.e. which notes are more likely to follow a given note). This will result in a "transition matrix" of size 13 x 13 (the number of notes in the scale, including semitones) which could further be used to "compose" new tunes.

The analysis software can be written in any language (C, java,...) but the composition element should be in a web based language, ideally PHP.
This project will be carried out under linux and so requires some knowledge of/interest in linux/unix.
