The courses taught in the Engineering and Commerce faculties are essentially what are termed service courses, that is, courses which develop the essential mathematical background for the study of other specialties. Many other students also, such as those of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Economics, will be concerned with Mathematics and computing mainly as tools, but important tools with which they must acquire proficiency.
Those contemplating a degree in any of the Mathematical Sciences should enrol in the Science or Arts Faculty via the Central Admissions Office (CAO) codes GY301 (Science) or GY306 (Computing Studies) or the CAO code GY101 (Arts) or GY309 (Financial Mathematics and Economics). The subjects may be taken either at honours or at a general level. Obviously one should aspire to an honours degree with which the opportunities are greater.
