22nd Galway Topology Colloquium
An 22ú Comhthionóil sa Toipeolaíocht i nGaillimhUniversity of Galway
June 4 - 5, 2024
The 22nd Galway Topology Colloquium will take place at the University of Galway, Ireland on June 4th - 5th, 2024.
Invited Speakers
The Colloquia series returns to its founding home after a Covid-induced hiatus. Established in 1997 by Aisling McCluskey and Paul Gartside, the colloquia provide postgraduates and early career researchers in topology, as well as seasoned academics, with the opportunity to share their research in a friendly, informal and supportive environment. Topology is interpreted broadly and includes set-theoretic topology, algebraic topology, continua theory, topological dynamics, and topological data analysis, as well as cross fertilisation between topology and category theory, order theory, metric space theory, and analysis. Rotating annually between the centres of topological research in Ireland and the UK, the Colloquia series is proud of its longstanding focus on the participation of graduate students. Speakers may present new results, discuss recent progress on open problems, or give expository lectures on some technique or area of interest. Graduate students are encouraged to present their own work. Invited speakers will give 50 minute talks and other participants will give 40 minute talks. In order to maintain the cohesive spirit of the Colloquium, it is envisaged that there will be no parallel sessions and participants would usually attend all presentations.
The following extract captures well the Galway vibe:
The historic city of the tribes dances to a beat uniquely its own. There is certain chemistry and vibrancy to this friendly University City, which many delight in, and few forget. Music, festivals, horse racing, pubs, restaurants, shops, theatres and most of all Galway people, combine to create this atmospheric mediaeval city of culture. From this pulsating heart the rest of the county flows.Galway Bay, immortalised in song, its beauty unchanging. Scenic Gaeltacht areas including the Aran Islands. Connemara, with the picturesque town of Clifden as its capital. Mountains, castles and stone walls, banks of turf, long sandy beaches, clear lakes, joyful leaping streams and flowing rivers. Delightful countryside punctuated by pretty villages, and traditional pubs.
As suggested above, Galway is a very popular tourist destination, especially during the summer months. We recommend that you book accommodation early. There are numerous hotels and guest houses located in Galway city; these can be easily found via the usual websites. Alternatively, you can book on-campus accommodation.
Galway can be reached by public transportation from Dublin, Shannon, and Knock airports. Visitors from continental Europe are likely to find Dublin airport the most convenient choice. There are frequent direct buses between Dublin airport and Galway city operated by Citylink ; the journey takes about three hours. Bus Éireann operates buses from Dublin, Shannon, and Knock airports to Galway. You can also take a train from Dublin city. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from the Coach Station or Railway Station to the University of Galway campus.
