  • Statistical Modelling.
  • Statistical Computing.
  • Design and analysis of clinical trials.

Research overview

Main area of research in the Biostatistics Unit of the HRB Clinical Research Facility, NUI Galway, includes the design and analysis of clinical trials, statistical modelling and statistical computing. Working with the All-Ireland Cooperative Oncology Research Group (ICORG) to inform the development of appropriate interventions and to translate this knowledge into improved patient care, we focus on the statistical aspects of clinical and translational ICORG trials in Ireland.

These trials span a broad range of study designs including superiority and non-inferiority trials, multi-centre randomized controlled trials and non-randomized pilot studies.
We are involved in designing trial protocols (data collection, sample size calculations, etc.), the development of statistical analysis plans, interim analyses and preparation of reports for Independent Data Monitoring Committee meetings. Work also includes performing statistical analysis using a variety of modelling techniques, preparing final statistical reports and advising on the presentation and interpretation of results for publications.
