Careers in Mathematical Science Evening

Thursday 27 October 2016, 6pm
THB-G010 & G011, Hardiman Research Building (Library Foyer)

The Chapter held a Careers in Mathematical Science evening on Thursday 27 October at 6pm in THB-G010, Hardiman Library Building. Mathematics graduates gave short talks on their experiences of finding employment, establishing careers, and developing networks. They also tried to answer that perennial question: what do working mathematicians in industry do all day?

Organisations represented included Avaya, Vhi, Valeo, St Joseph's Patrician College ('The Bish'), and Cisco, and the talks outlined the opportunities for mathematical graduates in their respective industries. In addition, Ananda Geluk from the Career Development Centre offered information on where previous graduates are working/studying and outlined the careers services and supports available to students.

The talks were followed by a chance to talk informally with the graduates over tea/coffee. The event was jointly organised with the Mathematics Society, and supported by the Stokes Cluster for Applied Mathematics.

Speakers: James McTigue (Valeo), Ananda Geluk (Career Development Centre), Peter White (Cisco), Noel Lawless (Vhi), Stefanie Carr (St Joseph's College), and Barry Hurley (Avaya)
